"Bisi understood the importance of mentorship; it was the heart of everything she did and remains the guiding ethos of her centre. We must give the next generation every opportunity to grow this field, to become mentors themselves, and to continue the legacy of CCA, Lagos, just as Bisi would have wanted."
El Anatsui

As part  of its March 2022 sale of Modern & Contemporary African Art in London, Sotheby’s hosted a charity auction  to raise funds needed to provide the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) Lagos with a permanent home. El Anatsui and Yinka Shonibare CBE RA were among the first to donate works which were sold to further the late curator Bisi Silva’s vision for the space, so that it could continue to provide a much-needed platform for developing, presenting and discussing contemporary visual art and culture, a nonnegotiable resource for emerging artists from Africa. From this charity auction, $1 million was raised for CCA to secure its Yaba home and renovate it to the highest world-class standards.
