Celebrating the legacy and art collection of Fred Meijer
To commemorate the centenary of the birth of Grand Rapids billionaire and art collector, Frederik Meijer, who died in 2011, the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids holds an exhibition which features pieces Meijer collected throughout his life, along with new acquisitions and pieces on loan from sculptors and galleries Meijer knew and loved. A significant addition to Meijer Gardens’ permanent collection is a sculpture by El Anatsui. New World Map, 2009, vibrant with color and texture, is a map that does not refer to a specific geographic space. It was acquired specifically for the Meijer Gardens’ Welcome Centre.
