An exhibition on the history of modern Nigerian Art
The Layers exhibition focuses on key moments in the history of modern Nigerian art; the Independence exhibition in 1960, exhibitions and seminars organized by the artistic group Mbari, FESTAC’77, the Uli artistic movement, and the AKA artistic collective. Any accurate historical account of Nigerian contemporary art would have El Anatsui‘s name all over it, and thus, the classical wood panel work, Between Onitsha and Asaba, 1985, is prominently featured.
