El Anatsui does "Safety Curtain" with museum in progress
Safety Curtain is a series of exhibitions by museum in progress that have, since 1998, transformed the iron curtain of Vienna State Opera‘s main stage into an exhibition space for contemporary art.
El Anatsui is selected as the artist for the twenty-eighth iteration of Safety Curtain in 2025/2026. He presents “XOHANAMI”, an installation of woodcuts that can be seen by Vienna State Opera audiences before and after performances and during intermissions from September 30, 2025 until the end of June 2026. In support of museum in progress‘s project, Anatsui creates two new limited edition wood sculptures from the installation.
