A massive museum survey of El Anatsui's work, curated by Okwui Enwezor and Chika Okeke-Agulu

Haus der Kunst in Munich is dedicating to El Anatsui’s work its largest  survey exhibition presented to the public until date. The exhibition features a wide range of the artist’s experimental creations spanning five decades, including his massive bottle-cap wall sculptures, wood sculptures and wall reliefs, ceramic sculptures, drawings, prints, and books. “…what El does is much more than art… with his work he is changing and opening our views on the present, the past and the future…” Marzieh Kermani, Haus Der Kunst, Munich.

As a welcome to this fantastic exhibition, viewers are first confronted by Second Wave, 2019, a piece designed by El Anatsui specifically to drape the facade of Haus der Kunst. Other works such as Rising Sea, 2019 and Logoligi Logarithm, 2019, have also been created specifically for this retrospective.

Regarding this exhibition, we continue to receive moving comments from the public.

“Everyone who I take around to see the exhibition is stunned by the works – in fact, one visitor who specially came around last week was moved to tears when walking through the labyrinth!”
